The Middlesex-London Health Unit is investigating an outbreak of legionnaires' disease in the city. The rare, airborne respiratory illness is due to legionella bacteria, which is usually found in warm water sources such as hot water tanks and air conditioning systems. Since July 24, 20 cases of legionnaires' disease have been diagnosed, starting with a business in the south end of London and spreading to a neighbourhood in the southeast. Ten of these cases have resulted in hospitalizations.

Two separate drownings have resulted in the deaths of a 66-year-old woman and a 16-year-old youth. Huron County OPP and local emergency services, along with the Canadian Coast Guard, were called to the Goderich pier July 31 around 11:50 a.m. for an unconscious person in the water. The individual was found by the coast guard and taken to the Goderich Hospital. After extensive life-saving efforts by emergency services and hospital staff, she was pronounced dead.

Tourism spending in London, Ont., reached over $1 billion in 2023, according to a report from Tourism London. The report, prepared by the Conference Board of Canada, shows tourism spending in the city rose by 10.8 per cent last year, bringing in an extra $106.5 million for the local economy compared with 2022. This brings the yearly spending total for overnight tourists in 2023 to a total of $1.08 billion.

A 16-year-old boy is facing multiple weapons-related charges after a group of four teenage boys attacked a member of a group of younger boys Wednesday night. A group of kids were approached by four teenagers wearing ski masks on Sunningdale Road East, just past Richmond Street, around 9:50 p.m. A 13-year-old boy was assaulted by the group, and witnesses observed one of the suspects produce a gun and strike the 13-year-old boy in the head with it.
