Good afternoon, Greenpointers. We should be in that home stretch before summer officially begins (June 21 date be damned, the return of Greenpoint Open Studios is how we mark the new season). It won’t be the warmest Memorial Day weekend on the books, but that’s how the cookie crumbles. Need ideas about what to do during the long weekend? Consult our roundup. Our plans include seeing a new revival of You Can’t Take It With You, starting tonight at Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research.

You Can’t Take It With You might be known best as Frank Capra’s enormously successful 1938 film, but it originated as a Pulitzer Prize-winning play. You can see a new revival of the show at Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research (251 Huron St.), with performances on May 23-25, May 27, and May 30-June 1. All the more poignant is that producer and cast member Emma Hart is actually the granddaughter of playwright Moss Hart, who wrote the show with George S. Kaufman back in 1936.

Mayor Eric Adams is apparently stopping by Williamsburg this evening. And if you didn’t know about it, that’s probably by design, as his office didn’t do much to publicize it. According to the local outlet Williamsburg 365, Adams is hosting a community discussion on public safety, specifically the Bedford Avenue bike lane, tonight at 6 pm, at the Beis Chana School (712 Bedford Ave).

A new laundromat has arrived on Franklin Street. Apollo Laundry and Cafe, not to be confused with the nearby Apollo Express Laundromat (or even Apollo Bagels, but that might go without saying), recently soft opened its doors at 137 Franklin Street. According to signage on the door, Apollo Laundry and Cafe offers wash and fold, dry cleaning, and shirt pressing. Opening hours are 7 am to 10 pm, Monday through Sunday. The retail space has sat vacant for years.

Gonna sound very much like the lil snowflake Oberlin grad that I am, but the education I got there rewired my brain for the better. I really loved learning and challenging myself, and this current lack of intellectual curiosity is a huge fucking bummer!!!

In only two years, ChatGPT and the surge of AI-generated cheating from college students it has created have unraveled the entire academic project. https://t.co/F3YGG9xCXo
