Aussie rules teams across the Eyre Peninsula say they have only just been told by the SANFL that 15-year-old girls cannot play in the boys' competition this season. Some girls were allowed to register and pay up for the season, before being told mid-way through the first game they were banned. Traditional owners have slammed the South Australian government's process for approving a site for Port Lincoln's $330 million desalination plant. The plant will be built at Billy Lights Point at the entrance to Porter Bay on the outskirts of Port Lincoln, despite significant community opposition. The issue is complicated by the urgent need to address extremely low levels of underground water in the region, where almost 28,000 water users face a supply risk.
