When Jacob Giles's mobile phone floated out to sea in a bucket off South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, he never expected a friend would find it unscathed 20 kilometres away, three days later, still dry in the sturdy, little bucket. The re-purposed 10-litre paint bucket with its precious mobile cargo had travelled across busy Boston Bay, from Engine Point in Lincoln National Park to North Shields beach.

Authorities say the officers were conducting a routine boarding and they were not injured. A review is underway over the incident. A sea captain who witnessed three South Australian fisheries officers falling into the ocean last week is calling for an end to the practice of at-sea boarding.

A pest eradication baiting program using federal and state funds aims to remove mice, cats, and rats from Flinders Island to return it to a pristine pre-settlement state. The island needs to be pest free for a year before threatened species including wallabies that once lived on the island are introduced to a new haven. There are hopes the island could be pest-free by the end of 2025.
