An Aberdeen man has thanked vets after they saved his dog Rocco’s life after swallowing a ball. Ray Howell made a frantic dash to an Aberdeenshire clinic to save his rescue dog’s life. Rocco, who is a rescue taken in after suffering abuse at his previous home, was playing in the garden when he accidentally swallowed his favourite toy. The three-year-old Doberman was struggling to breathe and already slipping into unconsciousness when he arrived at Mintlaw Vets.

Four Mexican visitors on e-bikes were rescued early this morning after getting into difficulty in the Cairngorms. Braemar Mountain Rescue were called out by police at about 8.30pm on Sunday after a report of someone sustaining an ankle injury. Four members of the team initially headed out. Their number had grown to 16, however, by the time the rescue ended at around 1.30am on Monday.

Emergency crews were sent near Aberdeen beach this afternoon after reports of four kayakers in difficulty. The coastguard sent a lifeboat to their aid at about 3.30pm today. A helicopter could also be seen from the beach, hovering over the water. It is understood the group found themselves in difficulty due to the weather. A spokesperson for the Coastguard told the Press and Journal that all the kayakers were recovered and taken to safety.

Businesses have been left “furious” after cruise ship passengers were allowed to roam the streets of Lerwick despite a viral sickness bug being onboard. Tourists descended on the town before tour guides were told people had taken ill with gastroenteritis onboard.
