The dollar amount to settle the case appears in legal papers filed with Westchester County court last week. Raphael’s lawsuit is the second instance where the city lost a default judgment for failing to respond to a lawsuit within the time limit.

Christine Metzger, a 56-year resident of Buchanan, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 11, 2025. Christine was born August 29, 1933, in New York City. She was a graduate of Peekskill High School. She devoted her life to service. In high school, she was voted as the one who, “did most for the school.” Later in life, she was awarded a proclamation from the Village of Buchanan for her duty and dedication to volunteer organizations and to her community.

For the first time in four years, there was an increase in voter turnout for the Peekskill City School District election, which took place this year on Tuesday, May 20. Of the 14,558 eligible voters, 455 people (3.1 percent) came to the polls to pass the $131.7 million budget and select three candidates out of four to sit on the Peekskill Board of Education. Only one proposition was voted on: the school district’s proposed 2025-2026 budget of $131,740,528.
