When Mom’s House executive director Christina Rodriguez met Bella Vita executive director Savannah Marten for lunch at Lowrider Cafe in downtown Toledo, they had no idea that their annual meeting would result in a brick-and-mortar partnership between the two organizations. “That meeting wasn’t actually supposed to spark anything big,” Ms. Rodriguez said.

MONROE — When someone is the victim of a crime, speaking with a deputy in a uniform can be a bit more intimidating than speaking to someone who isn’t, volunteers for a Monroe County sheriff’s unit said. To better support victims who have suffered horrific tragedies, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office created its Victim Services Unit, which has residents of the county volunteer to provide comfort and resources in the aftermath of an emergency and until legal proceedings take place.
