    New Yorkers are now free to be “walkin’ here” — legally. As of Thursday, jaywalking will no longer be a punishable offense in New York City, following a 10 a.m. Department of Transportation hearing that will formally amend the rules of the city. The rule change comes months after the City Council overwhelmingly passed legislation decriminalizing the act.
