A brief late-morning rally succumbed after the White House announced that Trump would impose a 104% tariff on all Chinese imports, effective just after midnight Wednesday. All in all, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 11.6% at the close of the market.

The bank raised its forecast for a global recession this year to 60%, up from 40% before the tariffs.
