MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Middletown residents packed a public hearing Thursday night for a proposed zoning change regarding a long-discussed town center project. The proposal would redevelop a corner of West Main Road, but it requires zoning adjustments, sparking renewed concerns from residents-many of whom have opposed the plan for years. Though the project was formally introduced in 2021, discussions have been ongoing for 13 years.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - As businesses begin to acknowledge the presence of artificial intelligence and embrace it, some local colleges are starting to take note. Rhode Island College (RIC) is now the state's first college to offer a bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence. "They really want to understand about this tool that's out there now," Dr. Tim Henry, an associate professor at RIC who's helping design the program, told 12 News.

It's always fun to think about warm weather in the middle of winter, but summer vacation bookings on Cape Cod are down. There are 19,000 short-term rentals on the Cape, and according to the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, rentals are currently slow for July and August. Part of the reason is politics because travelers could be hesitant to spend money until they understand how the new administration could impact their wallets.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Local businesses are expecting a boost from Valentine's Day this year, especially given that the holiday falls on a Friday before a long weekend and school vacation. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend a record $27.5 billion this year on Valentine's Day. People lined up outside LaSalle Bakery in Providence Friday morning to try and grab a sweet treat for loved ones, colleagues and friends.
