President William Ruto's nominee for Education Julius Ogamba Migos could succeed his clan-mate Ezekiel Machogu. Migos becomes the fourth individual from the larger Gusii Region to be appointed to the Education docket, which is one of the most powerful dockets in government. Should Parliament approve his nomination, Migos will join Prof Sam Ongeri (2007-2012) and Dr Fred Matiangi (2015) as some of the leaders from the region to head the Education docket.

One person in Kisii County needs 1,000 cubic meters of water annually, a report by the Kisii County Government Department of Water and Environment shows. However, due to the failure to conserve water sources, only 500 cubic meters are available per person annually. This has pushed the demand for borehole water in the region, which calls for the protection of springs and streams that have been the only source of water reticulation for years.

A family in Nairobi’s South B area has been thrown into mourning after their son aged 7 plunged into open sewer. It is reported that the boy was walking home in the evening hours of June 14, 2024 when he fell into the deep sewer around Mater hospital. His body was later recovered the following day in Ruai treatment area. The incident comes barely three months since a police officer on a rescue mission in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area fell into a manhole.

Nyamira Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi, who has declared interest in the Nyamira governor seat, says elective seats are not a preserve of men in the community. Momanyi, who is serving her second term, says there is much women leaders can learn in Gusii politics. “Elective positions are not a preserve of men, let us embrace what other communities are doing. Women leaders must be ready for the duel ahead of us,” she says.
