Traditional songs and dances that brighten dull days stole the show at the national Kenya Music Festival at Moi Girls, Eldoret as the event’s prestigious gala got underway. Participants who emerged top in their classes after ten days of music, dance, poetry and public speaking among other categories underscored happiness as the cure for stress. The most outstanding schools yesterday started doling out their winning items. The gala, set for today, is reserved for winners of different classes.

The presentations did not shy away from the fact that conflict is a common occurrence among people. This comes against the backdrop of the recent Gen-Z demonstrations against and eventual storming of Parliament.

On the fourth day of the 96th Kenya Music Festival, youthful and graceful Taarab performances stood out as primary schools stepped back, making way for secondary schools. Tuesday featured only girls' schools performing original Taarab songs by renowned coastal artists, focusing on talent and creativity. Nzoia Sugar Primary, a favourite, introduced a fresh style with their rendition of 'Nitisiri Mola Wangu' performed by Evelyne Leleruk, Anita Wanjiku, and Velvian Nasimiyu.

Resonate School Busia brought the roof down with their well-rehearsed and executed performance in the African and Western instrument ensemble at the ongoing Kenya Music Festival in Eldoret. The programme had saved the best for last when the school appeared as the very last item in the class after a dozen worthy presentations. They played a medley of African tunes mainly Rhumba including the evergreen Charoni Chazi originally by Kenya Commandos Jazz Band.

This message was carried in performances of elocution pieces at the ongoing 96th edition of the annual Kenya Music Festival at Moi Girls’ High School Eldoret. Elegant Spurs, a new entrant to the fete moved the audience with their well-projected, coordinated and rhythmic presentation, Mwalimu, written and directed by Felix Kariuki and Nickson Nangide.
