    A multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead and two others injured, including an officer, has forced the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway to remain closed for several hours through the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Monday morning. The incident was reported around 2 a.m. near Moraga Drive, not far from Sunset Boulevard. Video showed a badly damaged pickup truck and a sedan with an airbag deployed left on the southbound side of the freeway as emergency crews were responding.

    An investigation is underway after Los Angeles police officers opened fire, fatally striking an armed suspect in the Harvard Heights neighborhood Tuesday night.     More dead marine mammals have washed ashore in Ventura County as the unprecedented bloom of harmful algae in Southern California appears to be worsening. Sky5 footage on Friday showed at least three deceased whales, a dead dolphin, and a disoriented sea lion along the coast near the Ventura Fairgrounds. Necropsies determine if the animals were afflicted by high concentrations of domoic acid, a neurotoxin that impacts the brain, organs and nervous system.

    The Los Angeles City Council voted 11-2 on Tuesday in favor of expanding a policy that prevents the homeless from sleeping in certain public spaces. The ordinance, which also prohibits people from sitting, lying down and keeping belongings in designated areas, now extends to Superior Street and Deering Avenue in Chatsworth. Local business owners have been concerned about increasing crime data, with many arrests related to narcotics and trespassing, and believe it is due to homelessness.
