More dead marine mammals have washed ashore in Ventura County as the unprecedented bloom of harmful algae in Southern California appears to be worsening. Sky5 footage on Friday showed at least three deceased whales, a dead dolphin, and a disoriented sea lion along the coast near the Ventura Fairgrounds. Necropsies determine if the animals were afflicted by high concentrations of domoic acid, a neurotoxin that impacts the brain, organs and nervous system.
Los Angeles expands ban on sleeping in public

The Los Angeles City Council voted 11-2 on Tuesday in favor of expanding a policy that prevents the homeless from sleeping in certain public spaces. The ordinance, which also prohibits people from sitting, lying down and keeping belongings in designated areas, now extends to Superior Street and Deering Avenue in Chatsworth. Local business owners have been concerned about increasing crime data, with many arrests related to narcotics and trespassing, and believe it is due to homelessness.

Two people were killed and two others left in critical condition, including a child, following a rollover crash on the westbound 60 Freeway in Chino early Monday morning. The crash was reported around 2 a.m. just west of the Ramona Avenue onramp. Video from the scene showed the badly damaged vehicle after it had crashed into the embankment. Two unidentified adult victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Chino Valley Fire District spokesperson Dean Smith confirmed.
Concern grows over minke whale trapped for days in Long Beach harbor

Concern is growing among experts and the public alike over a whale trapped for several days in the Long Beach Catalina Landing. The minke whale is believed to have arrived late at night earlier in the week, possibly Tuesday, during a high tide, but it was unclear how long it could survive in the harbor’s shallow waters. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) officials attempted to help the whale find its way out on Thursday.

Witnesses say that a man captured on video driving through a CarMax dealership in Inglewood over the weekend was upset over the appraisal of his vehicle and may have tried to assault an employee first. Carmax confirmed that the customer was having his vehicle appraised before he put the SUV in reverse and drove into the doorway of the dealership, smashing the glass doors and hitting whoever was in his way.

Officials are telling swimmers to think twice before jumping into the ocean water in Los Angeles County. The warnings, which serve as cautions rather than orders, come after debris from the devastating Palisades Fire was spotted in ocean water off the coast of Malibu. The warnings extend from Las Flores State Beach in Malibu down to Santa Monica State Beach. They’ll remain in effect until further notice.

Hours of heavy rain triggered mud and debris flows along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and on Palisades Drive in Pacific Palisades overnight. Video around 3 a.m. showed a mudslide blocking the northbound side of PCH at Big Rock Road in Malibu. Crews were seen using a bulldozer to help clear the debris, which left the highway temporarily closed through the area.
Attack by family dog leaves 3 injured in Los Angeles County home

Three people were injured and a family dog was killed when it attacked during a social gathering at a home in Norwalk Sunday night. Deputies responded to a report of a dog attack around 7:30 p.m. at a residence in the 14100 block of Crossdale Avenue. Three injured adults were found at the home, including a brother and sister suffering from dog bites to their arms and legs, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed.
