VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KXII) - A permanent concrete batch plant has been proposed for Van Alstyne which has raised concerns for residents and local leaders. The Gonzalez Brothers Batch Plant would be built near the southbound U.S. Highway 75 Frontage Road. It would neighbor a separate lime production plant, the U.S. Lime Company. Van Alstyne resident, John Van Stry, lives about a mile away from the proposed batch plant.

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - A Denison man is thankful to be alive, and seeking added safety measures on US Highway 75 after being trapped in an upside-down, water-filled car in Sherman. David Pyles was making his morning commute on Highway 75 around 5:30 a.m. Monday. He described it as a normal day until heavy rainfall the night before caused him to hydroplane. “I remember going airborne and basically just kind of tensing up, going ‘Lord, please protect me’,” Pyles said.

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - The Sherman Police Department served in a new way Thursday evening for the Tip-a-Cop fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse. Each year, Sherman Police Officers serve tables at the restaurant to raise money for a good cause. Proceeds raised go toward Special Olympics Texas to put on sporting events for Grayson County children and adults with special needs. Sherman Police Chief Jason Jeffcoat said it means a lot to the department to give back to a community that gives so much to SPD.

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - The last show of Sherman’s Hot Summer Nights 2024 was on Thursday evening, marking the end of the concert series’ 30th year. This year was one of the event’s biggest yet with large crowds and world-famous acts including The Beach Boys and Don Felder, formerly of the Eagles. Between the seven Hot Summer Nights concerts there were about 20,000 people and Lights on the Lake drew a crowd of about 14,000.

DORCHESTER, Texas (KXII) - Dorchester is a small Grayson County city surrounded by US Highway 75 and State Highway 289, two roadways driving growth right into the town. Mayor David Smith said the town has a population of about 100 currently but that could soon grow. In 2023, News 12 reported a nearly 700-acre master plan community known as, Cottonwood, was coming to the area off of FM 902. Earlier this month, the project broke ground. “It’s going to make Dorchester look very different,” Smith said.
