ST. GEORGE — A missionary at the St. George Airport was ecstatic to see his family after two long years, but he also had a surprise celebrity encounter. Half an hour before Micah Hyde’s plane landed on July 10, more than 70 friends and family members were gathered at the airport anxiously awaiting his return from Seattle. Meanwhile, singer Post Malone was right outside talking on the phone. He was headed back to Salt Lake City after visiting a luxury resort in southern Utah.

They said the temple groundbreaking announcement marks a significant moment of growth and access for church members in their home country. Aimeleen Solis is a convert from Tarclac City. She’s lived in Utah for over 30 years, but said she can relate to what this means to Filipinos.

BUTLER, Pa. (AP) — Donald Trump was whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots rang through the crowd. The former president and presumptive Republican nominee was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers during his last rally before the Republican National Convention opens Monday when bangs started ringing through the crowd. Trump could be seen reaching with his right hand toward his neck. There appeared to be blood on his face.

SALT LAKE CITY — A relic of Saint Mary Magdalene was stolen from the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City this week, the church announced Friday. A spokesperson with the church said the theft was discovered on Wednesday when the staff found the shrine that held the relic was broken. The Very Reverend Martin Diaz said in a press release that the thief likely picked up the vessel holding the relic but could not hold it because it was so heavy.

SALT LAKE CITY — In the Utah State Prison in the middle of the hot, dusty concrete complex, the women inmates are planting a garden. “A lot of girls have been working hard and pushing hard to have something like this,” inmate Kassie Tolman said. The garden is a community space where women who have proven they can manage themselves can spend their free time. Facility staff hope the garden will help women develop skills and improve mental health.

LAYTON, Utah — A brush fire has broken out in Layton near Layton pkwy, 100 W. causing delays. UTA FrontRunner had to pause service this afternoon near the Layton station due to the brush fire causing delays. A bus bridge was ordered between the the Layton and Farmington stations for frontrunner users, but was shortly canceled after responders were able to control the fire. UDOT says to still expect delays up to 30-40 minutes the rest of the evening.

SALT LAKE CITY — The FBI on Friday identified a suspect in the recent disappearance of a 14-year-old girl from Ogden. Elizabeth “Ely” Gonzalez was last seen in Mexico City, Mexico on June 30. According to a press release from the FBI, the suspect is 31-year-old Antonio Moreno, Gonzalez’s uncle. The FBI said it believes Moreno took Gonzalez and his two daughters without their mothers’ permission.
