Two people have been charged in connection with the killing of 3-year-old Nola Dinkins, whose name and photo became publicly known on the night of June 10 when New Castle County police issued an Amber Alert for her. A day later, County police announced the cancellation of the alert, saying the girl's mother − 31-year-old Darrian Randle − concocted a story that Dinkins was abducted at gunpoint. The tale, police said at a brief news conference on June 11, was a lie.

To the dismay of Maryland prosecutors, the boyfriend of a woman charged with murder in the death of her 3-year-old daughter has been released from jail. Cedrick Britten, 44, was charged on June 11 with accessory to first- and second-degree murder after the fact, failure to report child death and "other related criminal charges" for his role in the death of Nola Dinkins, Maryland State Police said. On June 12, prosecutors in Cecil County, Maryland, requested that Britten, 44, be held on no bond.

Darrian Randle, the 31-year-old mother who police say falsely reported her 3-year-old daughter missing in Delaware on the evening of June 10, has been charged with murder and a litany of other offenses in Maryland, court records show. The arrest comes after she was charged in New Castle County with lying to police, a felony, on the same day. She is being held at Baylor Women's Correctional Institution near New Castle.
