WEST LAFAYETTE — A torn labrum is what remains of Harrison guard Ray Gibson's gym and court wounds. Gibson sustained the injury in the IHSAA sectional championship against Kokomo. The sharp tenderness Gibson feels daily serves as a reminder of what he accomplished and endured as Harrison won its first sectional boys basketball title in 26 seasons. Gibson played a major role, even as he left most of the scoring to future University of Saint Francis forward Malachi King.

LAFAYETTE ― An SEC program is seeking the services of McCutcheon guard Lillie Graves. The rising junior was offered by Florida Thursday night, she announced through her Instagram account. Graves won the Journal & Courier Big Schools Player of the Year award after averaging 18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and shooting 46% from the floor in 2024-25, leading McCutcheon to IHSAA Class 4A regional and sectional titles.

LAFAYETTE ― First baseman Bree Johnson recalled the first time she met her future assistant coach and mentor Annie Dooley as a 6-year-old, beginning her introduction into competitive sports. Dooley, a former West Lafayette softball player herself, put the aluminum t-ball bat in Johnson's hands and began swinging away, not realizing where the friendship would take either player or coach. Johnson had Dooley by her side as she broke the West Lafayette RBIs school record Thursday.

LAFAYETTE ― Harrison sophomore pitcher Chase Gothrup has been working since December to craft his command. Countless hours were spent working inside the Raiders' auxiliary gym, throwing to catcher Drew McTagertt. The only other person with them being pitching coach Dave Schwartz, tracking balls and strikes and offering guidance. All the work done has led to Gothrup evolving into one of the state's most consistent pitchers.
