(Elliott) -- An Elliott man faces charges following his arrest Thursday afternoon. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says 40-year-old Cory Smith was arrested at around 3:50 p.m. for driving while barred--an aggravated misdemeanor. Authorities say the arrest occurred in the 200 block of Cherry Street in Elliott. Smith was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 bond. (Elliott) -- A Montgomery County farmer has agreed to a consent order with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources stemming from a feedlot manure runoff late last year. The Iowa DNR says it has reached an administrative consent order with Duane Bergren Jr., including a $5,500 administrative penalty after an investigation into a manure runoff reported from his small feedlot facility at 1490 Spruce Avenue northwest of Morton Mills.

(Corning) -- After over a decade in the role, Adams County's auditor is stepping down to pursue a new career opportunity. During its regular meeting earlier this week, the Adams County Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of Adams County Auditor Rebecca Bissell, effective June 2nd. Bissell has served as county auditor since 2013, most recently being re-elected in 2024. She also served as the president of the Iowa State Association of County Auditors in 2024.

(Des Moines) -- Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand is warning of a "fiscal crisis" for the state budget. The lone Democrat to hold statewide office released an advisory on Iowa's current budget and potential future fiscal challenges Wednesday afternoon. Sand says that many of the concerns surround the spending of "one-time money" for ongoing expenses and declining revenues from annual sources such as income tax.
