KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Since 2008, Bishop Kevin Perry with Word of Life Ministries has been hosting a community gathering in East Knoxville. They have crafts for the kids, food boxes for community members and activities for all. It’s a day that Bishop Perry looks forward to each year. “It’s just an amazing day to just love on a community,” Perry said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Trey Reaves is hoping to set a record and paddle the entire 652 mile stretch of the Tennessee River in just seven days time. “It definitely is a lot, I’m not gonna sit here and be like ‘oh 652 miles, no problem’,” Reaves said. Reaves said he plans to sleep for four hours every day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Whenever he stops, he said it will only be for 10-15 minutes and then going right back into the water to avoid getting sore.

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Sheriff Tommy Jones has released detailed footage outlining Elijah Lester Isbill’s in-custody death at the Monroe County Jail. He spoke to WVLT News Friday about the incident. Isbill died at the Monroe County Jail, but he was taken into custody by the Madisonville Police Department. The police department has refused to comment on the situation, even though WVLT News has reached out more than half a dozen times this week.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Oak Ridge Police Department is looking to make their communities feel a little bit safer. This comes after a shooting and stabbing in the Scarboro area over Memorial Day weekend that injured ten people. Police Chief Robin Smith said they’re trying to get more patrols out with the goal of making that neighborhood feel a little bit safer.
