The family of a Kiwi who fractured his spine in Cambodia are urging travellers to get insurance as they face huge costs to bring their brother home. Charlie Lowe, a New Zealand citizen who has lived and worked in Australia for the last 15 years, suffered a serious spinal injury after falling on a curb in Phnom Penh, Cambodia while on holiday on July 5.

A 20-hour search and rescue operation took place on Saturday, after Charlie McLean, 8, and an 11-year-old girl became lost after wandering away from their DOC campsite near Mavora Lakes around 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

The chief of a US think tank, who has accused US President Joe Biden and his son Hunter of corruption, is facing several charges of corruption himself, as well as arms trafficking and sanctions violations. Gal Luft, a 57-year-old who holds dual US-Israeli citizenship, was on the run as a “fugitive” after skipping bail in Cyprus in April where he had been arrested and was awaiting extradition to the US.

Two people have been arrested after counterfeit money circulated in Rotorua over a period of two months. In a statement, Detective Sergeant Nathan Marten confirmed two were arrested on Tuesday 11 July on charges of forgery. Equipment used to make counterfeit $10, $20 and $50 notes was also seized, he said.
