Less than an hour after Cody Balmer allegedly firebombed Gov. Josh Shapiro’s Harrisburg residence, he called 911 and told dispatchers he’d targeted the governor because of “what he wants to do to the Palestinian people,” according to a search warrant carried out by Pennsylvania State Police in the aftermath of the predawn attack Sunday. “You all know where to find me,” Balmer told the 911 call-taker, according to the search warrant.

A stone-faced Cody Balmer remained quiet outside of answering questions as a district judge in Harrisburg deemed the suspected arsonist too great a danger to be released from jailed pending trial. Balmer, 38, is accused of firebombing the governor’s mansion early Sunday as Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family slept inside. He told investigators he hated the governor and, had Mr. Shapiro caught him inside, he’d have attacked him with a hammer.

A Harrisburg man said he was harboring a “hatred” toward Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro when he walked an hour from his home to the Governor’s Mansion, broke into the property and tossed several incendiary devices that caught the home on fire while the governor, his wife and guests were inside early Sunday morning, causing significant damage hours after the family had celebrated the beginning of Passover, according to court documents.
