DENVER (KDVR) — A new pope has been selected, and with the selection comes a major historic moment that excited local members of the Catholic Church. The new pope was celebrated and prayed for throughout the service. Anthonia Kalu is visiting Denver but used to live in the metro and wanted to stop in for service once she heard of Pope Leo XIV. “I feel excited, relieved and it’s just pure pleasure,” Kalu said. “I was so surprised, for us to have a Pope coming out of this part of the world is awesome.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KDVR) — The victim of a criminal mischief incident in Westminster is speaking out and hoping it’s an isolated incident. On Saturday, just before 1 a.m., Westminster Police Department officers responded to a criminal mischief call near West Church Ranch Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard. Roxanne Bingham had called them after an unknown object was thrown at her car. Bingham was driving home along Church Ranch Blvd passing under Zephyr Street when it happened.

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Schaefer is retiring after a 30-year career in law enforcement and says he hopes he leaves behind a legacy of building relationships. CBI Director Schaefer has been working within the Colorado Department of Public Safety for his entire career. First, as a trooper with Colorado State Patrol, then as an agent with CBI, before working his way up to become the 10th director of the bureau as of 2022.

DENVER (KDVR) — On Thursday, the Denver Sheriff’s Department launched a new program aimed to humanize those incarcerated. In May 2024, Denver County Sheriff’s Department brought back in-person visitation to the county jail, and a year later, they’re taking it a step further and launching something new: A clothing project that allows those in custody to wear everyday street clothes for visits. Sheriff Elias Diggins says the goal is to humanize the inmates and not further traumatize family members.

DENVER. (KDVR) — With Cinco de Mayo celebrations happening across the city this weekend, specifically along Federal Boulevard, businesses and Denver police are in preparation mode. Starting tomorrow, Denver police will be reducing traffic to one lane in each direction along Federal Boulevard for the celebration. They are also encouraging safe and sober driving. The lane reduction will be from Sixth Avenue to West Mississippi Avenue.
