MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk officials are hosting a free expungement clinic for the public at the end of May. The Erase & Elevate Expungement Clinic and Community Resource Fair will occur Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church-Westwood — 620 Parkrose Ave. A Shelby County spokesperson said county officials are on their way to 10,000 completed expungements, dating back to 2018.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Serenity Towers has been ordered to close later this month, attorneys said during a court hearing Thursday. The property is expected to shutdown on May 22, 2025, and a court order is requiring residents to vacate the building by then. Forty-four residents are scheduled to move out the week of May 5. About 100 had still been living on the property. Another 30 residents are expected to depart next. If plans go smoothly, 28 people should be left by May 16.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officials revealed a new nonstop flight for Memphis and Detroit on Friday, May 9. Spirit Airlines launched the service for travel between Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). The flight, featuring a 182-seat Airbus 321 aircraft, will be available four times a week: Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Commissioners Mickell Lowery and Erika Sugarmon are inviting District 8 residents to attend part two of the Community Meeting on Development Opportunities. The event will occur Tuesday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m. The free open forum will address the rising homeownership and rental housing shortage issue.

In an unanimous decision, the jury in the state trial of three former Memphis Police Department officers charged with the death of Tyre Nichols found the defendants not guilty on all counts. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Justin Smith all faced charges of murder in the second degree, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and official oppression.
