Brennan Wakey's appeal of a denied 'Stand Your Ground' claim has been rejected by the Second District Court of Appeals. Wakey is charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the 2021 death of his boyfriend, Colton Wright, at a Sarasota Hyatt Place hotel. Judge Thomas Krug previously ruled that Wakey did not reasonably fear imminent death or great bodily harm when he shot Wright.

Alexander Lightner, 27, sentenced to over four years for possessing an unregistered firearm after making online mass shooting threats. Lightner, a member of the white supremacist group Terrorgram Collective, made threats of a racially motivated attack. Investigators found firearms, ammunition, white supremacist propaganda, and a copy of Mein Kampf at Lightner's residence.

A Venice man has been sentenced to four years and three months in federal prison for possessing an unregistered firearm after he was arrested for making several online threats of committing a mass shooting. Alexander Lightner, 27, was arrested in January 2024 after he made the online threats in the name of white supremacy and extremism, according to previous reporting.
