DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) - Lieutenant Keith Scoby and the Denham Springs Police Department are getting creative to retain and recruit more first responders. "We're trying to catch up with surrounding agencies that offer more competitive pay scales and that's simply what we're trying to do," explained Scoby. "We have to think outside the means of a sales tax and a property tax and this was the solution we came up with."The solution is creating a 6.75% tax on the city's hotels.

"I can definitely tell you where the blight is in 10," said Metro Councilwoman Carolyn Coleman. This is what Coleman is talking about. (WAFB) - It's been almost 15 years since the last Plan of Baton Rouge was created, which is basically a blueprint for what the future of what downtown should look like and how to make that come to life. Although there has been a lot of new developments downtown over the last few years, there has not been a clear, cohesive plan on how these projects will work together to bring more investments to the area. That's the goal of creating a new master plan called Plan Baton Rouge III.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Filling the gap in the skilled trades workforce. That's the goal of Baton Rouge Community College's newest projects. With the help of an $850,000 grant from Lowe's Foundation, BRCC is not only creating a new plumbing certification program but also building a new construction trades outdoor learning lab. It's something Provost and Vice Chancellor of Workforce and Student Development Sarah Barlow said will allow students to put their classroom knowledge to the test.
