FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Newly released body camera video shows the moment police said they were forced to fire at a man accused of setting a building in Fort Lauderdale on fire, killing him. Fort Lauderdale Police said they first received the call about a subject trying to start a fire, at around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 9. Investigators said Roberson Fertil was responsible for two blazes.

FLORIDA CITY, FLA. (WSVN) - - A 90-year-old grandfather is back home from the hospital after he suffered a terrifying experience — when a bullet ricocheted through his bedroom and grazed him in the shoulder. Florida City resident Rafael Cotto, a typically active man, said his day-to-day routine of cooking, driving and playing games with his grandchildren has been put on pause ever since the incident, early Monday morning.

SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A manatee was rescued in Marathon on Thursday after being injured by what’s believed to be a boat strike — all while a brush fire in the area made the effort even more challenging. The Dolphin Research Center’s Manatee Rescue Team, along with help from Aquarium Encounters, responded to a canal in the Coco Plum area, where they found the roughly nine-foot male manatee.

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner withdrew his controversial proposal to end the lease for the city’s only arthouse following a sometimes contentious and emotional commission meeting, as well as an outpouring of support for the independently run theater. 7News cameras captured a line of ticket holders at the entrance to O Cinema, located on the ground floor of Miami Beach’s Historic City Hall on Washington Avenue, Wednesday evening.

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A man is dead and another is injured after shots rang out in Northwest Miami-Dade. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene near Northwest 88th Street and 23rd Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. 7Skyforce hovered above the rear of the home, where a tarp covered a body. Deputies and paramedics were also seen conversing and apparently gathering evidence.
