GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Pitt County’s run to the Little League Softball World Series this week took one dramatic turn after another, each time the team rallying for a win all the way to the finals. However, in Sunday’s title game against Massapequa Park, NY, the magic ran out. Mistakes against the Mid-Atlantic Champion proved costly as that and timely hitting led to a 5-2 win for the New York team. It’s the first World Series title for a New York team.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — With a couple of swings at the plate, Pitt County not only beat the defending Little League Softball World Series champions, they got a measure of revenge and punched their ticket to Sunday’s title game. Not a bad job on a hot and sunny day at Stalling Stadium at Elm Street Park. Pitt County rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for a 4-3 win over Hewitt, Texas, the defending champions.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — We’ve seen some pretty good pitching from the Pitt County Little League Softball World Series team. On Wednesday, it was the team’s offense that took center stage. Pitt County exploded for 14 hits after falling behind early, scoring seven runs in the first inning and eight in the deciding third in a 16-1 victory over the Southeast Regional champion, Austintown, Ohio, at Stalling Stadium at Elm Street Park.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Hewitt, Texas, showed why it’s likely the team to beat at the Little League Softball World Series. The Southwest Regional champions pulled away from Pitt County, the Southeast Regional champion, late in Sunday’s contest for a 6-1 victory at Stalling Stadium inside Elm Street Park. The game was the last of four played on Sunday. The LLSWS continues Monday with four games. There is a chance the tournament schedule could be altered due to the threat of bad weather in the area.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Summer vacation is over, at least for high school athletes participating in fall sports. That’s never a bad thing. Monday was the official start of practices for the fall sports season. Athletes in football, volleyball, cross country, boys soccer, girls golf and tennis were taking part in their first official practices outside of the summer workouts and camps they’ve been participating. The first official games of the season can begin to be played on Aug. 14.
Struggles continue as Salem tops Down East

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Down East’s struggles continued as the Salem Red Sox rallied for six runs in the third inning for a 6-4 victory on Sunday at Grainger Stadium. Salem took four of six in the series, the third straight the Wood Ducks have lost since winning the first-half Carolina League North Division title. Down East (48-37 overall, 11-13) is now one-half game out of last place in the second-half standings.
