TAMPA, Fla. (WNCT) — ECU’s softball team had its postseason run ended in the conference tournament semifinals Friday with a 3-1 loss to South Florida. Emma Jackson had two hits for the Pirates, including producing the lone run with a solo home run in the first inning. South Florida tied it in the second and then took the lead in the third. The Bulls added their final run in the sixth and ECU couldn’t get a runner on base in the seventh, down to the last three outs.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — ECU’s baseball team started its last home in-conference series of the year Friday night, May 9, 2025, versus UTSA. Ethan Norby took the mound for ECU and allowed four runs on four hits after ECU had a 1-0 lead early. The Roadrunners got four runs in the fifth inning and tacked on another in the sixth. UTSA got more insurance with three runs in the eighth inning, stretching the lead to 8-1 and an eventual 8-5 victory.

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Down East Bird Dawgs had their first-ever regular season baseball game at Grainger Stadium in Kinston Friday, May 9, 2025. The game starts at 7 p.m. and gates opened at 6 p.m. The stadium has come changes since the Down East Wood Ducks played their final game there in the fall of 2024. A new videoboard was installed beyond the outfield wall. Another new addition to the historic stadium is a patio section along the third-base line.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Several baseball and softball teams across Eastern N.C. took the fields Thursday night, May 8, 2025, in the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs. D.H. Conley’s baseball team, the top seed in 4A, advanced to the third round with a 7-2 victory over New Hanover. The Vikings softball team also was in action and edged out South View in a 3-2 win to move on to the third round.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The first round of the NCHSAA baseball and softball state playoffs began on Tuesday, with the dream of a state title up for grabs. Many high schools in Eastern North Carolina were in action during the first round. The top seed in class 4A DH Conley squeaked past Willow Spring 1-0, the lowest seed in the tournament. Cross-town rival JH Rose was also given a top seed, cruising to a 15-0 blowout win over Williams in the 3A bracket.
