Two prominent Alaska Republicans, Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom and former state Sen. Click Bishop, have officially filed letters of intent to run for governor in the 2026 election, marking the first formal entries into what is expected to be a competitive race to succeed term-limited Gov. Mike Dunleavy. Both candidates submitted their filings on Monday, allowing them to begin fundraising and campaign activities ahead of the November 2026 general election.

Chris Fairbanks, the man, is a distant relative of Charles W. Fairbanks — the man Fairbanks, Alaska, is named after. Charles was vice president under Teddy Roosevelt.
