Instead, welding instructor Pete Daley was honored as the 2026 Alaska Teacher of the Year. Updated: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13Two men are dead after a domestic disturbance led to a fatal shooting in the 1600 block of Washington Drive Monday night. Fairbanks police responded to the domestic disturbance at 10:23 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from Fairbanks Police Department and Alaska State Troopers. Thomas Bean, 36, started shooting at Fairbanks police officers with a semi-automatic rifle, hitting multiple officers’ cars.

Fairbanks police are investigating a Monday night shooting on Washington Drive. Residents reported hearing around 30 gunshots on Washington Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday. Fairbanks police posted on social media around midnight that local law enforcement officers were involved in a shooting. All officers are safe, according to the release.
