Staff Sgt. Leonard Ploeckelman, who died in 2015 at age 93, will be honored with all of the other US Army Rangers who served during World War II. Sheboygan WWII veteran Staff Sgt. Leonard Ploeckelman will be posthumously honored with a Congressional Gold Medal. Ploeckelman was a U.S. Army Ranger who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He served with the 5th Ranger Battalion and participated in intense fighting against German forces.

The two sides of the ship that were recovered are today positioned 27 feet apart, the original width of the vessel. SHEBOYGAN – The Lottie Cooper was built when three-masted cargo ships were common on the Great Lakes, moving goods from port to port. According to Sheboygan Press clippings provided by the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, in 1876, the Lottie Cooper was constructed in Manitowoc.
