Jefferson Elementary School in Sheboygan, originally built in 1894 as the Seventh Ward School, was the first school in the city wired for electric light. The original 1911 Jefferson Elementary building was replaced in 2006 because of safety concerns and aging infrastructure. Unusual rules from the early 1900s included regulating clocks to standard time, considering a female teacher's marriage as a resignation, and banning tobacco use for students.
