An 18-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a man during a drug deal. Prosecutors say Alex Allen Edwards Jr. of Virginia Beach and his friend, 17-year-old Ariyon Allen, planned to rob Logan Fuehrer during a meeting to buy marijuana in January 2024. When Fuehrer arrived, Allen pretended to pay him the $90 for the drugs via Cash App, during which time Edwards shot Fuehrer.

An online flyer promoting a trio of controversial speakers at an upcoming reunion of the survivors of the 1967 bombing of the USS Liberty is fake, organizers say — but one of the speakers named in the flyer is scheduled to speak. The Liberty Veteran’s Association will hold its 58th anniversary reunion from June 6-9 at the Sheraton Waterside in Norfolk. This year, the small, private event and the hotel became the focus of days of criticism as pictures of the flyer circulated online.

An Isle of Wight man was arrested Monday morning, and authorities accused him of being found in possession of close to one million images of child pornography. The sheriff’s office received a tip that 53-year-old Joseph Wayne Clifford, of Carrollton, was in possession of child sexual abuse material. Investigators executed search warrants on his home, electronic devices and his person.
