    VIRGINIA BEACH — A city police officer was charged Sunday with drunken driving and refusing to take a breath test after getting involved in an early morning crash, according to police. Officers were alerted around 3:45 a.m. to an accident in the 2300 block of Huckleberry Trail, according to Virginia Beach police spokesman Ricky LaBlue. The residential street is off Nimmo Parkway, in the Princess Anne area.

    NORFOLK — Jerrauld C. Jones, a longtime judge and state delegate who began making a name for himself when he was among the first Black students to integrate one of Norfolk’s elementary schools, died Saturday. He was 70. Jones’ son, Jay — also a former state delegate and a current Virginia Attorney General candidate — made the announcement on Facebook late Saturday. “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jerrauld C. Jones,” the post said.

    VIRGINIA BEACH — One person and two cats were killed Tuesday in an early morning blaze at an apartment building in the Chesapeake Beach area, according to officials. Firefighters arrived at about 3:30 a.m., and found heavy smoke visible from the front door of the two-story apartment building, according to Virginia Beach Fire Department social media post. The building is located in the 4700 block of Dadson Court, near Pleasure House Road.

    NORFOLK — A man was shot and injured during a shooting Saturday afternoon on a residential street near Colley Avenue. The incident happened around 1:20 p.m. in the 800 block of 27th Street, just a short distance from Colley Avenue. Arriving officers found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening wound and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to a statement from police. No other information was released.
