Great article - thank you! And radar has presumably sustained a similar price decline (I don’t know but I’m extrapolating as many technologies do this). And will it be $10 in another decade? Which brings us back to Tesla. My personal experience is that Tesla FSD cannot see nearly as well as a human in heavy rain, in dense fog, or in the aforementioned on narrower roads with variable edges and little to no paint marking the lanes.

Yup - the growth in the new tech is good... but if it's not matched by an equivalent fall in the old tech, then the benefits (in terms of cleaner climate, etc) won't be realised. Likewise (albeit less likely), a fall in legacy tech without the corresponding rise in new tech may help with cleaning the climate... or it may not (if it just means older tech is kept running longer).

Sorry to spoil the narrative, but Tesla's best quarter for sales was the last quarter, Q4 2024 :)We know this quarter will not be great, almost exclusively because of the changeover to the new Model Y. Also because they started 2025 with very low inventory. The people with blue hair will no doubt protest and boycott Tesla. But they were never massive fans of Tesla or Elon Musk in the first place. Not really in the Tesla buying demographic. see moreFar left folk.

It charges slower than most EVs these days, and with its charging curve, it’s not uncommon to spend an hour at a charging station. Plus, some people are in the habit of charging them up to 100% instead of just getting enough charge to get to the next charger, leading to even longer time spent hogging up a stall.

What an idiot! Yes I my stored solar in my batteries or in my EVs that have V2L. Before I had solar, too many trees hurricane Milton took out, I've on my EVs 2.5 days and 4 days before the FF power came back on. But such a mental Miget like you can't figure that out. So what do you pay in gasoline, power/ month? Next time you fill up think of me running on $.06/gal gasoline equivalent and how much you pay/get screwed? And paying your power bill over charging 2-8x more than I pay.

Hmmm - it seems that, technically, this isn't charging 'for free'... Rather, you get billed as normal, and then Ford will trigger a rebate equivalent to how much you charged. Depending on timing, you may still have to pay for that charging yourself first, before the rebate turns up. It also means you likely have to pay for the 'losses' in charging (as the charged energy will be measured by the Vehicle, and thus (presumably) gets measured after the losses...

It's 22% this year and increases to 28% in 2025, and 33% in 2026. By 2027, the targeted percentage will climb to 38%, then 52% in 2028, 66% in 2029 and then 80% in 2030.

The fact is, our politicians (mostly the GOP, but the Dems too) chose to give away American manufacturing dominance, and to kowtow to the oiligarchs over common sense. This is the biggest travesty of the 21st century economically - the US abdication on electrification, solar panels, EVs, batteries, heat pumps - the Renewable Revolution is the MAIN technology driver of the 21st century (1st half, at least, is guaranteed).

Bloomberg like 90% of talking heads shows it knows nothing, spouting such nonsense numbers. LFP have been $60/kwh since CATL started selling to Tesla 3 plus yrs now. Though about right on the present price at $53/kwh. So only a ~4%/yr drop. The difference is the massive amount available in a battery glut. It's going lower though with some new tech making them more dense, lower cost on track to be about $45/kwh in 2 yrs.
