COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The El Paso County Sheriff is sounding the alarm on what he says is a burden to local taxpayers. More than 135 inmates in the El Paso County Jail are waiting to be transferred to one of the 21 Colorado Department of Corrections facilities across the state. Another 53 inmates are waiting to be transferred to the state hospital. This is all in addition to the jail’s own demand of housing county inmates.
