The Minnesota Senate Ethics Subcommittee has hearings next week to look into allegations of conflicts of interest against Senate President Bobby Joe Champion, DFL-Minneapolis. Champion stepped down from his role as chair of that same committee after Senate Republicans filed an ethics complaint against him, which Champion called a smear. When not at the Legislature, Champion is a private practice attorney.

While the knowledge of ticks being vectors for Lyme disease is ubiquitous, there’s a lesser-known threat these insects carry that's concerning health experts: the Powassan virus. The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District spotted its first tick of the season on March 27. “We suspect they’ve been active for some time and have had numerous reports from members of the public that they've been found throughout the Twin Cities already,” the MMCD wrote online last month.

Twins fans began flocking to Target Field at 6 a.m. Thursday for an annual free breakfast ahead of Minnesota’s home opener. But as usual, there’s an air of hesitation around any Minnesota sports team’s chances. As of Friday morning, the entire American League Central is tied for first — except the Twins, who were a half-game behind the other four teams in the division. The Twins lost 5-2 to the Houston Astros in Thursday’s home opener, after a two-game winning streak.
