During the lunch hour, the table at the private Minneapolis Club where Minnesota publisher Burton Cohen held court on the regular is now open for the taking. “I think he had lunch at the Minneapolis Club every day — every single day,” said longtime friend and former Pioneer Press theater critic Dominic Papatola. Cohen was one of the many Minneapolis movers and shakers who visited the club.

Turtles are on the move in Minnesota right now, as they embark on their quest to nest and lay eggs. But that also means their natal homing instinct takes them across roadways and into the path of cars. While data on exactly how many turtles are injured or killed by vehicles annually is hard to nail down, turtle populations as a whole are declining, and , according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

While drought still remains across the state, the month of May brought a large drink of water that significantly dropped drought. “Our moderate drought area in the state of Minnesota shrank from about 41percent back in April to less than 15 percent now,” climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley said. The northern and far southern parts of the state are still dry but overall, in May, some areas of the state got over 4 inches of rain. The other notable characteristic of the month was extreme wind.
