EAST LANSING — Hurricane Milton didn’t do the people of Florida any favors last October. Michigan State’s men’s golf program, on the other hand …If the Spartans are the team they think they might be next year — perhaps the deepest team they’ve had — they’ll have to thank Milton’s ferocity for canceling the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Florida, last October.

    1. What MSU needs from its next athletic director is clearThere’s no doubt about what Michigan State needs from its next athletic director — someone who can walk among billionaires and thrives in their world, and can appease and invigorate a donor base that’s more relied upon now than ever. For those who just knew of him, Johnny Jones will be remembered for coaching both the Lansing Everett boys AND girls basketball teams to state championships in the early 2000s. That alone makes him one of one. He is the only high school basketball coach in Michigan ever to win state titles with the boys and girls teams at the same school while coaching both teams. For those who really knew Johnny Lee Jones, the three state championships don’t begin to do him justice.
