With a dramatic walk-off win Saturday and some help elsewhere in the Big Ten, Michigan State’s baseball team grabbed the last spot in the 12-team Big Ten tournament, which begins Tuesday in Omaha. It’s a very different Big Ten tournament than in previous years — not only with the field expanding from 8 to 12, but also in how the tournament will be played. Pool play replaces a double-elimination bracket. There are four three-team pools in this year's tournament.

They thought they had lost their star pitcher to the transfer portal and to Vanderbilt, a college baseball powerhouse which offered the limelight and a significant NIL package. No hard feelings.
