    The new Money Hill car park in Ashby is set to be long-stay - to encourage shop and business workers to use it. But a request to offer reduced price parking appears to have been turned down by North West Leicestershire District Council. The car park next to the new housing development off Nottingham Road, is due to open this summer. At the last Ashby de la Zouch Town Council planning committee meeting, councillors agreed to put suggestions to the District Council.

    Plans for a controversial affordable housing development in Hugglescote have been put before North West Leicestershire District Council. An outline planning application to build 54 homes on land to the south of Ashburton Road was made this week. The land is likely to be the Farmer's Field adjoining the 'Reccy' Recreation Ground. The application has been made by Nottingham company MyPad c/o Marrons Planning.

    Coalville's Liberal Democrat councillors have expressed concerns about plan which would see Bardon Quarry's wash plant increasing its working hours to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An application is with North West Leicestershire District Council which asks for a variation of planning permission. This includes an amendment to the operating hours of the wash plant from 6am-10pm to a 24/7 operationLibDem Councillor Jake Windram has urged local residents to object strongly to the application.

    The demolition of the 'derelict' former council offices to the rear of Stenson House in Coalville has moved a step closer. North West Leicestershire District Council has received a planning application to carry out the work on the site off Whitwick Road. The council now feels that the cost of maintaining the building is 'a drain on public funding'. The buildings have not been in use for around two years, with a new office now open off Belvoir Road next to the Belvoir Shopping Centre.
