A local author and illustrator has launched a book of drawings depicting familiar scenes from Ashby de la Zouch. 'Benchmarking Ashby de la Zouch' has been compiled by Di Lorriman and is on sale now. The book includes both sketches and artwork centred on some of Ashby's best-known areas such as the Bath Grounds and Market Street. Di launched the book at the newly re-opened Tourist Information Centre in North Street.

Around 30 volunteer groups were represented at a special Ashby de la Zouch Town Council event last week. A Celebration of Volunteering was organised for the second year running - and attracted around 100 people to the Ivanhoe School in North Street. The event attracted a wide range of local volunteer groups who were all recognised in a speech given by incoming Ashby Mayor Damilola Ojuri.

Ashby's Tourist Information Centre has been re-opened in North Street. The original facility - based at the town's library - was a popular destination for visitors and local residents alike. It closed during lockdown in 2020, but has now been relaunched in the same spot - with backing from Ashby's Business Improvement District (BID). The centre has been refurbished, with information available on local attractions in the town and beyond.

A 225-signature petition opposing plans to build 800 homes in Whitwick, New Swannington and Coalville will be presented to councillors again next week. The item is on the agenda for next Wednesday's North West Leicestershire District Council Local Plan Committee meeting. It has been referred from last month, when it first appeared on the agenda for at the May 13 Full Council meeting, and has been by submitted by Ms G Baker.

Outgoing Ashby Mayor, Cllr Liz Parle, presented a cheque for £1,500 to the charity Enrych as part of her fundraising over the past 12 months. Cllr Parle's year as Mayor ended last month and now Cllr Damilola Ojuri is wearing the chain. But this week, she met with representatives of Enrych to hand over the impressive sum. Enrych, is a Leicestershire-based charity founded in 1986 by Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder.
