LONDON — Keir Starmer plans to formally sign the U.K.-India trade deal with Narendra Modi on a visit to India this summer. Starmer has touted the deal as part of his success on the international stage since it was agreed in early May after three years of talks. At the G20 summit late last year, Britain’s leader accepted an invitation from Modi to visit India. Britain’s PM is planning to travel to New Delhi this summer to finalize the pact, two people close to the planning process told POLITICO.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S.-U.K. Economic Prosperity Deal to great fanfare in the Oval Office three weeks ago. But British businesses fear it could be weeks — or longer — before the 25 percent sectoral tariffs hitting key sectors are finally lifted.

LONDON — British officials are working to negotiate down Donald Trump’s 10 percent tariffs on British exports, Peter Mandelson, the U.K.’s ambassador to Washington, said Tuesday. Earlier this month Prime Minister Keir Starmer became the first world leader to reach a deal with Trump to lower the White House’s 25 percent tariffs on car, steel and aluminum imports into the U.S.Yet the deal failed to lower the 10 percent baseline tariffs Trump announced in April.

LONDON — China is urging Britain to “collaborate closely” with it on artificial intelligence and is inviting ministers to Shanghai in July to talk about it further, the country's ambassador to the U.K. said Wednesday. Shanghai will host the World AI Conference this summer, including “high level meetings on global AI governance,” Beijing’s ambassador to the U.K., Zheng Zeguang, said in a speech in at the Sino-UK Entrepreneur Forum in London.
