(WALB) -A Coffee County grand jury has returned a three-count true bill murder indictment against Jon Worrell in the September 2006 death of his wife Doris. The indictment, filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County on June 10, 2025, accuses Worrell of malice murder, felony murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - You may soon have three new digits to remember when dialing a telephone number in Southeast Georgia. The Georgia Public Service Commission announced Tuesday the state will soon have an 11th area code. The 565 area code will be assigned to new numbers issued in the 912 area code region which covers cities including Douglas, Waycross, Brunswick, Savannah and many communities in between. Existing phone numbers using the 912 prefix will not change.

DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) -A man charged with the murder of his wife in Douglas in 2006 is scheduled for a bond hearing later this month. According to the Coffee County Clerk of Court’s Office, Jon Worrell, 58, is scheduled to appear before Judge Dwayne Gillis on June 26 at 9 a.m.Authorities announced Worrell had been arrested for the murder of his wife, Doris, on May 20, in Maryville, Missouri, following a nearly 20-year investigation. (WALB)- The Albany Police Department asks the public’s help in finding answers in three unsolved homicide cases. The department made an appeal for information on its Facebook page Tuesday evening. One the cases involves the killing of a man the day before Thanksgiving 2022.
