Sinclair Broadcast Group
Sinclair Broadcast Group is a prominent American telecommunications firm, founded by Julian Sinclair Smith and currently owned by his family. Based in Hunt Valley, Maryland, it ranks as the second-largest television station operator in the U.S. in terms of the number of stations, following Nexstar Media Group. Sinclair leads in terms of total coverage, operating or owning 173 stations across more than 100 markets, which reach about 40% of American households, especially in the Southern and Midwestern regions. Additionally, the company manages three digital multicast networks—Comet, Charge!, and TBD—as well as the Tennis Channel cable network. Sinclair also runs four radio stations, all situated in the Pacific Northwest. Among its various ventures, Sinclair owns the Ring of Honor (ROH) professional wrestling organization. Although Sinclair became publicly traded in 1995 and is listed on NASDAQ under the symbol SBGI, the Smith family maintains a controlling financial stake in the company. All four of Julian Smith's sons play significant roles within the organization, with David D. Smith serving as the Executive Chairman.
