AFFTON — Seth Valley had no fear in trying again. After bunting a 2-1 pitch foul over the backstop, the Sullivan senior center fielder tried to lay another one down. This one was successful, just beyond the outstretched glove of Lutheran South reliever Mason Beshears, to bring home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the Eagles’ 3-2 win over the Lancers in the teams’ Class 4 baseball sectional at South’s Pfund Pfield. “It’s stressful, man,” Valley said.

TOWN AND COUNTRY — Madi Beuligmann’s graduation party Saturday night took a fun twist earlier in the afternoon. Beuligmann is one of five seniors on the Cor Jesu lacrosse team and the Chargers completed a run through the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association playoffs with a 13-10 win over defending champion Eureka in the final at Missouri Baptist University’s Spartan Field.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Even with an astounding opening-round score, Harrison Zipfel wasn’t about to rest on his laurels. The St. Louis University High junior standout followed up his unbelievable round of 8-under-par 64 on Monday with a fantastic 4-under 68 on Tuesday to win the Missouri Class 5 boys golf individual championship at Rivercut Golf Course. “I, for sure, knew I had to play well coming into (Tuesday),” Zipfel said.
