It's a good weekend to hop around looking for Easter eggs. Read on for the Central PA Pretzelfest, the Electric City Tattoo Convention and other events this weekend. A massive egg hunt is planned for the Wallenpaupack area Saturday at 10 a.m., organized by Wallenpaupack Church with help from the community. Volunteers worked since January to fill 25,000 eggs. Nearly 500 people are registered and counting.

The Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off Saturday as the region’s largest celebration of Irish heritage. Lackawanna County has the most Irish ancestry in Pennsylvania, according to U.S. Census data.

Love is in the air and there are plenty of things to do with your sweetheart this weekend. A community garden in Scranton is full of red hearts, each with a devotion submitted by members of the public. The annual “Scranton has heart” campaign started in 2023 to add a vibrant display to the neighborhood. Messages were submitted through an online forum, and volunteers hand wrote them on hundreds of hearts. The display will remain in the park through March 1.

It’s Super Bowl weekend and a lot is happening in the region, starting with a chance to dance the night away with Philadelphia Freedom: A Tribute to Elton John. Philadelphia Freedom: A Tribute to Elton John will perform on Saturday at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. Five of the six members of the band are from Northeast Pennsylvania. “It started a bit more scaled back,” said Doug Delescavage, who plays Elton John.
Pa. Dutch heritage celebrated on Groundhog Day in Schuylkill County

Nearly 100 people gathered inside a Schuylkill County clubhouse Sunday for a cultural celebration centered around a rodent. Like the famed Punxsutawney Phil, Grover the Groundhog is part of a weather prediction party each Feb. 2. Unlike Phil, however, Grover and his spouse, Sweet Arrow Sue, are taxidermied groundhogs. The quirky custom highlights the heritage of the region’s ancestors at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park in Pine Grove.

Some will dare to jump into cold water at Montage Mountain to raise funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA). The organization hosts eight polar plunges around the state to support more than 15,000 athletes in Pennsylvania.
