TARBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service on Tuesday evening confirmed the first of what turned out to be three tornadoes in Edgecombe County during a 12-hour period starting Monday afternoon. Officials have already confirmed a tornado near Pinetops that hit early Tuesday morning, causing damage. They also confirmed an EF1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 100 to 110 miles per hour touched down in the area of southern Macclesfield at 3:27 a.m., staying on the ground for two minutes.
