    ENFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — A months-long investigation into suspected drug activity in an Enfield neighborhood led to the arrest of 11 people — including a man awaiting trial on a murder charge — Wednesday night, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force had been “gathering intel to combat a neighborhood nuisance” after getting many complaints about drug activity on East Alsop Street in Enfield over several months.

    Students said they were protesting the living conditions on campus, including mold and improperly working air conditioners in residence halls. The university said the rally was unauthorized and attended by people not affiliated NCCU. The school had previously said three of the five people detained Wednesday afternoon were not connected to the university.
