NCSHP Trooper Garrett Macario and Sgt. Matthew Morrison had been under investigation since January following a crash on Capital Boulevard in October that took the life of 31-year-old Tyrone Mason.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Cumberland County Sheriff Ennis W. Right announced Friday he will retire from his position. Wright said his retirement will become official on June 30. According to his office, Wright spoke with the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners about his decision and sent them a formal letter of retirement. Under statute, Chief Deputy C. Jack Broadus will serve as acting sheriff until a successor is appointed, according to Wright’s office.
