FRANKFORT, Ky. — A measure banning an diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at public colleges and universities passed the Senate on Wednesday, taking a significant step toward final passage. House Bill 4, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Decker, R-Waddy, passed the Senate chamber on a 32-6 vote. It now heads back to the House for concurrence. If the House concurs with a title amendment change in the Senate, the bill will head to Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear's desk.

Tuesday and Wednesday marked the last two days lawmakers could file bills in their respective chambers. Now it's full steam ahead to pass new laws before a veto period begins March 15. After that period, Gov. Andy Beshear could veto legislation without an opportunity for the Republican supermajority to override it.
