Gov. Andy Beshear has been busy lately, and at The Courier Journal, we've been following every step. Beshear has repeatedly hinted he's considering running for president in 2028 (with the caveat that last time we checked, that election is more than three years away). Steps the governor has taken to build a bigger national profile are at the center of our latest Blueprint cover story.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has not ruled out a run for president in 2028. He's said he won't run for Senate in 2026 and is set to leave the governor's office in 2027. Beshear recently launched a podcast and has been more visible over the course of the last year through social media, speaking engagements and other public appearances. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has a few rules on the podcast he unveiled earlier this year. “Be authentic” is at the top of the list. “Talk like a real human being” is next.

A courtroom challenge to two laws behind Kentucky's near-total abortion ban has been dropped, leaving the procedure outlawed under almost all circumstances. The ACLU of Kentucky announced May 30 it has dropped a lawsuit it filed last in late 2024 challenging the "trigger law" banning abortions that went into effect immediately after the Roe v. Wade decision was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as a separate law outlawing abortions before determining whether a fetal heartbeat exists.

A lot of people have taken time to share their stories with me over the last nine years, and so many editors and reporters at the CJ have done a lot to put me in a position to succeed. A huge honor that wouldn’t be possible without all of them.
