Six people were taken to hospital after a community centre in London’s Old East Village was evacuated Monday morning due to high carbon monoxide levels, officials say. It was shortly before 10:30 a.m. when the London Fire Department posted to social media a warning that the Boyle Memorial Community Centre on Charlotte Street had to be cleared out for high levels of the toxic, odourless gas, and that crews were ventilating the building.

The last known 1st Hussar from London who fought in the Netherlands and Germany during the Second World War has died. Harry Favell, a resident of Parkwood Hospital, died June 4. He was 104. Retired Lt.-Col. Joe Murray of the 1st Hussars said the regiment believes Favell was the last surviving London-area member who served in the war. “He is one of the last two Second World War veterans that we know of in Canada in the 1st Hussars,” Murray said.
