INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis coffee roasters say the Trump administration’s on-again-off-again tariffs are causing chaos in an already jittery business. It’s due in large part because of the need to import coffee beans — nearly 99% of the world’s coffee is grown outside the U.S. According to the National Coffee Association, only Hawaii and Puerto Rico have the climate to produce coffee. Tinker Coffee runs six cafes across Indianapolis and ships its coffee beans across the country.

MODOC, Ind. (WISH) — The superintendent of a rural school corporation in eastern Indiana is putting up a fight against lawmakers. The Indiana General Assembly recently passed a property tax overhaul that includes a provision to dissolve the Union School Corporation. Republican Governor Mike Braun signed Senate Bill 1 into law on Tuesday. Superintendent Galen Mast tells News 8 the school district is weighing its legal options and looks to file an injunction against the amendment.

Community Fairbanks Recovery Center, originally named the Indiana Home for Alcoholic Men when it opened its doors in 1945, is celebrating 80 years of treating people throughout Central Indiana. The center uses Alcohol Awareness Month to sound the alarm ahead of warmer weather when people celebrate graduations and enjoy more time together.

MODOC, Ind. (WISH) — A small school corporation in Randolph and Henry counties is one step closer to dissolution following the Senate’s approval of a plan to overhaul property taxes. The Indiana Senate approved the House’s version of Senate Bill 1 early Tuesday morning in a 27-22 vote. In a social media post, Governor Mike Braun (R) said he intends to sign the bill when he receives it.

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A 16-year-old is in police custody following a drunk chase from police late Friday night. Sometime after 11:30 p.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a vehicle driving recklessly going south on I-65 in Columbus. The caller told police that the car was swerving and brake-checking others. Deputies found the car and tried to stop it, starting a chase. During the chase, the car reached speeds over 110 mph.
