INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IndyCar fans will swap the smell of burning rubber for coffee beans as they will have the chance to meet drivers in a coffee shop. The Ed Carpenter Racing team will serve coffee at the Java House’s Zionsville shop during a special meet and greet on Monday afternoon. Indianapolis-based Java House is in its first season of sponsoring former Indy 500 Champion Alexander Rossi’s No. 20 Chevrolet in the NTT IndyCar Series.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — The IndyCar Series is revving up and shifting into high gear for the month of May. This weekend will see drivers hit the road course in the Sonsio Grand Prix. Drivers will have two practice sessions on Friday, before qualifying starts at 4:35 p.m.The race runs 85 laps on the 14-turn road course. Alex Palou — who has been dominant this IndyCar season so far — won the grand prix for the second year in a row last year. It’s not all just practice, though.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A central Indiana music dynasty could make history at this weekend’s Indiana State School Music Association State Concert Band Finals. The dad — Rick Granlund — has taught music for more than 30 years. For the last 21 years, he’s been at North Central High School in Indianapolis. He directed the band while all three of his kids were also in it — including his son, Connor Granlund. Throughout his time, he says every student and every teacher has become part of his family.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Students at a Lawrence Township high school are preparing for their production of an award-winning Broadway show. The theater department at Lawrence North will open “Hadestown: Teen Edition” on Friday. Director Paul Pitts says they are the first high school in the state to perform this adaptation of the show. Taylor Smith is the lead, playing the Greek mythological character, Hermes.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Homeowners near Canterbury Park are growing worried about the City of Indianapolis’ attempts to acquire land around the Monon Trail. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works is looking to widen the Monon Trail north of downtown, estimating that the repaving would cost $13.5 million. In February, Chris Carson received a letter from the city that made an offer to buy a 33-foot parcel of land in his backyard or have it donated to the project.
